Today I had the lovely opportunity to go to Weston College and talk to Tourism students about Ecotourism in Guatemala. I hope I had inspired them to get involved with the communities and be agents of change.
What is Ecoturism? Ecotourism focuses on socially responsible travel, personal growth, and environmental sustainability. Ecotourism typically involves travel to destinations where flora, fauna, and cultural heritage are the primary attractions. To offer tourists insight into the impact of human beings on the environment, and to foster a greater appreciation of our natural habitats. Ecotourism grows by 10–15% worldwide annually. (Miller, 2007). | Why Guatemala needs Ecoturism? We want to minimize Impact. |
"My favorite Ecotourism destinations are the hot springs Finca Paraiso in Izabal, Tortuguerio Monterrico Wildlife Reserve where you release baby turtles into the sea and 17,791-acre Chocón-Machacas Nature Reserve where you can see manatees."
