It is the 35Th Bristol Balloon fiesta and since 2009 I never miss it! Lets do a group and go and see this spectacular event not to be missed in a life time! The Chinese New Year festivities begin in the morning with a parade through the West End to Trafalgar Square, where there's an opening celebration with stage performances and special guests. A second stage on Shaftesbury Avenue hosts performances from local community groups and schools. Over the years the stage has seen fashion shows, plays and even Chinese hip-hop artists. Chinatown is at the centre of the New Year party. Food and craft stalls line the streets and a lion dance snakes through the crowds, stopping at restaurants to wish the owners good luck for the coming year. The free event, hosted by North Somerset Council and its partners will this year focus on building stronger, independent communities. A wide number of organisations and groups will be on hand, offering advice and information on a range of issues, from health care and social services to employment and community safety. There will be lots of entertainment and activities for visitors of all ages including a multi-cultural parade through the Town Centre and children's craft stalls. There will also be opportunities to find out about activities and clubs in your local area which you can get involved in.
