I joined Cafe Mamma in 2009 when my lovely girl was born. It was a life line since I just moved from Canada and all my family lived abroad. Tamsyn and all the peer supporters were very friendly and made me feel very welcome. First we meet in Avon way and later the group started to grow and we relocated in #Portishead Children Centre. I learned more about the importance of breastfeeding and when the opportunity to help others came, I was more than happy to become a peer supporter. The cafe runs every Tuesday from 10-12 where you can get one on one support. There is also a helpline you can call anytime and now we got a Facebook group where you can post your concerns anytime. It doesnt matter where you come from, as long as you know that breastfeeding is the best start for your baby and you are happy to encourage others to do so, that is the important thing. So if you are interested in becoming a peer supporter then please call us 07816 366370. or complete the form clicking here and someone will contact you to chat it through. A social enterprise is a business that trades for a social and/or environmental purpose. It will have a clear sense of its ‘social mission’: which means it will know what difference it is trying to make, who it aims to help, and how it plans to do it. It will bring in most or all of its income through selling goods or services. And it will also have clear rules about what it does with its profits, reinvesting these to further the ‘social mission’" To find out more go to: http://www.socialenterprise.org.uk I am hoping to set Latin cooking workshops and salsa lessons for the community in Worle and Weston Super Mare :) If you think you got an idea for Social Enterprise, call Hazel Wintle at North Somerset Enterprise Agency (Tel: 01934 418118, Fax: 01934 629541, [email protected]) because she has a have a couple of appointments free with an adviser on August 6th Today we had the joy to present to everybody the results of a 7 week effort. It looks like Play areas and activities for the youth and elderly are the three areas most in need, Our conclusions are •Most people are happy living, working and/or volunteering in the Big Worle area. •There were a significant number of people that didn't know about the Big Worle project or what is already happening in the area. •There is a desire to regenerate the area and have more community life and groups. •The results show us the greater need is in play areas, investing in young and old people, as well as a community centre. •It is an amazing opportunity for Worle but also an ambitious research project, for such a limited amount of time. And our recommendations are: •Due to the even split in the population and the results, we recommend that the money is distributed between them. •An accessible community centre with different initiatives run by the people for the people will encourage different generations to interact. •Self sustainability is desired. •This is an initial research, but we recommend that this is an on-going process and future ideas might emerge. We just finished our questionnaire and we are looking for as many voices as possible to have your say in the #BigWorle Every year BIG gives out millions of pounds from the National Lottery to good causes. Our money goes to community groups and projects that improve health, education and the environment What is Big Worle? A Big Lottery Fund called Big Local gave £1,000,000 to an area in Worle to improve, invest and tackle problems in the community. We need your input for this! It will only take 5 minutes of your time, but it will make a big difference because every voice counts! The recommendations of this research will presented Monday 29 July at St Marks Church at 6 pm. Also trough the Big Worle website, local newspapers and in Youtube. Please tell your friends and if you live, work of volunteer in this area, get in touch with me. :) Thank you Patty Shayler Big Worle Community Researcher Big Worle http://www.bigworle.org.uk/ Big Worle in Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/295205367272363/ Follow Big worle in Twitter: https://twitter.com/BigWorle "SUMMER EVENING OF SPANISH AND SOMERSET FOLK IN DANCE, SONG AND POETRY" .
