In my country, Guatemala, we celebrate 1st of November as "Dia de los Muertos" Day of the death. They are remembered in a very positive way. It is very different from Mexico and other countries. We like to build huge kites to send blessings to our ancestors. In this photo, Dia de Muertos is celebrated in Sumpango, Guatemala. Over 10 mt diameter hand made kites with amazing designs to send blessings to our ancestors. Guatemalans believe that the souls come out of their tombs, so many people go to decorate with flowers and have a picnic at the cemetery. It is a joyful occasion. It is also a tradition to put a photo of the decease, a glass with water and a candle to honor the ancestor. Many believers say to had visions or hear noises from them to indicate they are present. Our food: "Fiambre"If you want to buy all the ingredients in England, go to http://guatemalazest.weebly.com/fiambre.html Today we are celebrating 192 years since Guatemala declared independence from Spain. But it is not only my country the one celebrating. All of Central America used to be one confederation: Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. After 229 years of Spanish domain, you can still find Spanish legacy all around: from language, religion, food and family traditions. This month a torch of freedom will travel from Guatemala all the way to Costa Rica and it will be carried by thousands of central Americans with pride and honour There is so many interesting fact about Guatemala, but I tried to sort out the 10 most interesting from a British point of view.
